Huge identity theft uncovered from ICE raid in Omaha, NE
OMAHA, Neb. (KCAU) — The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released more information on June 18 about a raid at an Omaha, Nebraska business.
ICE said they uncovered a “massive identity theft” impacting unsuspecting U.S. citizens as a result of a raid at Glenn Valley Foods on June 10.
Federal authorities said a multi-agency investigation led by ICE found that about 70 illegal aliens were using stolen Social Security numbers and identities.
Officials said those aliens used the identities to unlawfully get employment authorization, health benefits, and wages.
“There have been individuals who have gone on the record recently referring to the identity thieves we arrested last week as ‘good, hardworking, and honest,’” said Mark Zito, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations Kansas City, which covers Omaha.
ICE said the identity theft left more than 100 victims to face emotional, financial, and legal consequences.
“These so-called honest workers have caused an immeasurable amount of financial and emotional hardship for innocent Americans. If pretending to be someone you aren’t in order to steal their lives isn’t blatant, criminal dishonesty, I don’t know what is,” said Zito.
Federal authorities said the victims span in multiple states, including California, Colorado, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
“The criminals who stole these identities didn’t just break the law, they upended lives. These victims aren’t faceless statistics; they’re real people who are being denied healthcare and have lost educational opportunities,” said Special Agent Zito.
ICE said the investigation remains ongoing. If anyone has information about the suspected immigration violations or related criminal activity, contact the ICE Tip Line by calling 866-347-2423 or online.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced on June 16 that five people were charged after having encounters federal law enforcement during the warrant’s execution.
Federal officials said more than 60 illegal aliens remain in the Lincoln County, NE Jail pending immigration proceedings, while some of them were on a recent ICE flight.
On June 10, ICE and other federal agencies executed a federal search warrant at Glenn Foods Valley in Omaha.
Officials said the worksite enforcement operation is the biggest one to happen in Nebraska since the beginning of the President Trump’s 2nd Administration.
