Man stabbed protecting daughter from knife attack in Orange County
A Westminster man was stabbed multiple times while defending his daughter from a woman with a switchblade who attacked them in a courtyard over the weekend, police said Tuesday.
The incident took place Sunday around 4:45 p.m. on the 8200 block of Westminster Boulevard in the Civic Center area.
Arriving officers found a man bleeding from stab wounds to his hand and leg, the City of Westminster stated in a news release.
The victim told investigators he was walking through the courtyard with his daughter when an unknown woman, later identified as 43-year-old Victoria Vu, threw a bottle at them and then walked toward them with a knife.
“Vu then attempted to stab the child, at which point her father shielded her” but was stabbed in the process, the news release stated.
Vu then walked away but remained in the courtyard and was arrested by officers without incident while still in possession of the knife.
Officials said the girl was not hurt in the incident but no further details regarding the father’s condition were released.
The motive for the attack was also unclear. “It appears to be a random act of violence,” the news release stated.
Vu, who was described as a former San Diego resident with no known address, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, felony child endangerment and possession of a switchblade.
