Rain chances increase into next week as monsoon moisture arrives

Hot temperatures will stick around through the weekend across New Mexico. Our first surge of monsoon moisture will move in by Sunday, bringing widespread and heavy rainfall into early next week.

Temperatures were still very hot across the state today, with a few isolated showers and thunderstorms again moving through the state. High winds moved into western and northern New Mexico today, but those winds have died down tonight. The rain has also ended tonight. It will be another warm night for many.

Wildfire danger returns to western New Mexico, the upper Rio Grande Valley, and southwest Colorado Saturday. High temperatures will be very hot again. A few isolated showers and thunderstorms will pop up in the afternoon in southeast New Mexico. More showers and storms will develop in the southeast part of the state on Sunday as monsoon moisture really starts moving in.

Monsoon moisture will continue to stream northward into New Mexico early next week, eventually peaking on Tuesday. This is the day we could see the heaviest rainfall across the state. Showers and storms will still develop Monday in central and eastern New Mexico. Heavier rain will then focus along central New Mexico from south to north Tuesday. For the rest of the week, showers and storms will still produce heavy rainfall, but the rain chance will shift a little farther east every day. Flash flooding will be likely on and off of burn scar areas. Rain chances will start to lower at the end of next week.
