School security guard in Southern California accused of sexual contact with minor

A 21-year-old school security guard in San Bernardino County was arrested for alleged sexual contact with a minor, officials announced.

In a news release, investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Specialized Crimes Investigations Division – Crimes Against Children Detail responded to Columbia Middle School, located at 14409 Aster Road in Adelanto, Thursday after the allegations were reported.

Authorities identified Adelanto resident Deshawn Mitchell, a substitute security guard at the middle school, as the suspect.

“Investigators and the Adelanto Elementary School District worked cooperatively to ensure a thorough investigation into this matter was completed,” the release stated.

The alleged victim in the incident was not identified due to their status as a juvenile, nor was any information provided on how long the 21-year-old had worked at the school and if he knew the child in question.

Mitchell was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.

His bail was set at $250,000, and it is unknown if he remains in custody.
